I have been a member of ASBC for over 40 years. I do not ever remember a time when Dr Gunn was not blessing me with God’s Word. I pray for all of the family during this time. May all of you be comforted in knowing that she is resting in God’s arms now..

I met Dr. Faye Gunn in the early years of 2000 when my children participated in the Monday evening Tutoring program at Alfred Street. She always showed kindness and a caring attitude for my youngsters during those times. Dr. Gunn is resting. Her battle is over. She is preaching in Heaven to the Angels! What a glorious time they are having with this Woman of God. God Bless family and friends!

To the family, may God give you sustaining strength for every moment forward and when you find yourself mourning; search your mind for a memory and your heart for her advice, she made those imprints and deposits special concerning you as 18 August 2020 would begin the legacy of remembering her life! I did not know Reverend Dr. Faye Savage Gunn as intimately as some, but I had an encounter with her and it blessed me indeed! Be proud and know she loved, she taught, she touched, she encouraged, she prayed and she preached just as God intended and now she will stand to hear those renowned words “well done my good and faithful servant.” God Bless You.

When I first moved to Arlington & started attending Alfred Street Baptist Church, my cousins Walter & Gail Gunn made sure to tell me to go meet my cousin. I didn’t realize that my cousin was The Rev. Dr. Faye S. Gunn, who was the 7th (out of only 8 in a 200+ year history & only woman!) Pastor of Alfred Street Baptist Church. Of course, I did as I was told & went to meet her. She was always extremely kind & I always felt blessed to simply be in her presence. She was obviously a powerhouse of a preacher!

Oh, remember the bus trips I organize to get students from Danville & Pittsylvania County to the ASBC HBCU festival? Well… one time, the tickets sold out before I got a chance to register my students, but I had already publicized it with you all🙃 I called her & just like that, it was handled & none of you ever knew a thing lol🙌🏾 I can only imagine all the good she’s done for others☺️

Rest in Heaven Rev. Dr. Faye S. Gunn🖤

Dr. Gunn’s sermon, Deep Water Christians, and her infectious zeal for preaching and sharing God’s Word led me to become a member of Alfred Street Baptist Church. May your precious memories of her serve as a source of strength and comfort as you celebrate her life. Definitely well-lived.

Wow, what can I say? A few years ago, I prayed and asked God to send me a mentor, a woman preacher mentor, and God sent me the Rev. Dr. Faye Gunn. She would visit Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site) from time to time, and took this preacher under her wing. I am so grateful for the words of wisdom and encouragement that she instilled in me over the time that we had as mentor/mentee. I will be forever grateful to God for sending her my way. To the Gunn family, you will forever be in my prayers…your wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother was a gem, as you already know. To the Alfred Street Baptist Church family, you too will be in my prayers. She fought the good fight, she finished her race, and she kept the faith. Rest on sweet Dr. Faye, rest on!!!

My mother who recently passed away loved your preaching when she came to DC for Thanksgiving one year. I told her how much I enjoyed your preaching style and what a beautiful woman you are. May your legacy live on and you will never be forgotten. Rest in perfect peace, Rev Gunn. Job very well done!

My heartfelt condolences and prayers are with the Gunn family and Alfred Street Baptist Church. We will miss Rev. Gunn dearly. I will never forget her kindness and how she extended the Right Hand of Fellowship to me after the first of the year in 2011. I felt welcomed. Rev. Gunn’s legacy at Alfred Street speaks for her.

Rev. Gunn has been an integral part of my life in Virginia from the time I first moved here in 1983. I was sixteen and completed 11th and 12th grade at TC Williams. I was not blessed to have her as one of my teachers, but I remember passing by her classroom my junior year with my friends. She was usually at the door and always greeted us with a hello and a smile. I remember thinking how pretty she was. Mr Fred was the shop teacher and all the boys loved him and thought he was cool. Later when I joined Shiloh Baptist Church (Alexandria), she preached one Women’s Day service and she was often a popular guest speaker at prayer breakfasts I attended all over town. I visited Alfred Street and knew that she was the Assistant to the Pastor.. I joined Alfred Street and in my twenty six years as a member and my 24 years on staff, Dr. Gunn has been a guide, mentor, supporter and an inspration to everyone in our church. She was the elder who encouraged our children and echoed the importance of always doing your best in all things, that village backup and support you need as a parent when your kids give you the side eye. I was honored to support her in her role as both Assistant to the Pastor and as Pastor. She loved us, and worked tirelessly for the good of our church. Her sermons provided both encouragement and nourishment for the soul, and she preached from the heart with the experiences and the love of a daughter, mother, sister, auntie, and friend. I will cherish the memory of her person, presence and voice in our church family and my thoughts and prayers are with you, Mr. Fred, Rodney, Kelvin and the entire family and the members and friends of Alfred Street Baptist Church.

Rev Dr Gunn meant a lots to a lot of people. I have heard her messages and they still stand out especially when she made the comment: “” A
Charge to Keep I Have and a God to Glorify” and she was committed to doing God’s work. And she taught from Psalm 27 “: The Lord is my light and
my salvation whom shall I fear, The Lord is the strength of my, life whom shall I be afraid”, I am sure that our Father has met her at the Heaven’s Gate
saying “Well done My good and faithful servant, Well done!!!!! Rest in Peace!!!!! I never met Rev. Dunn face to face, but I know what she meant to ASBC.
To the family: God will take care of you. Love and Peace!!

The Rev. Dr. Faye Savage Gunn was one of my favorite preachers: Her poise, her belief that life is electrifying and we should harness its power, and her execution in her preaching. She was an example to all in ministry, especially women and staff pastors due to her serving in nearly EVERY CAPACITY of senior (Ministerial) leadership . To have all of that knowledge and wisdom and still having the capacity to love and teach ALL people was truly astounding to me. Rest on, Dr. Gunn, I will see you in the Rapture.

My life and time serving in ministry at ASBC was always so enriched because of Rev. Gunn. She was not only a gift in the pulpit but a gift of a person. She was truly a constant in her character, personality, and was just all around phenomenal in her humanity. I gleamed so many lessons through her both in word and in actions. Continued prayers to the Gunn Family as heaven has truly gained a gem.
