Have you visited the J.O.P. Library? It honors John Otis Peterson, our seventh pastor, who served here for forty-two years before retiring December 31, at midnight, in 2006. It is located on the hallway beyond the choir loft. Our history tells us that the JOP is not Alfred Street’s first library. There was a “lending library with 1,600 volumes as early as the 1920s.” Presently, the J.O.P. Library inventory is nearly 3,000 items and was dedicated September 2, 2001 during the ASBC Homecoming Service.
During the school year, October – June, the J.O.P. Library is open on Mondays, when Tutorial Ministry is in session, from 4:00-8:45pm. Sundays, throughout the year, members of the J.O.P. Library Team are available between services and following the 11:00am service. Tuesdays, from 6:00-7:00 we are available to serve you. We can also be available by appointment to carry out our mission to provide resources that enhance ministries, discipleship, fellowship and worship for members and those to whom they witness. The J.O.P. Library continues to be a work in progress. During the summer, hours may be less structured.
